Department of Public Education under the name of the Faculty of Education Sciences of Ankara University was founded in 1968 with the contribution of Prof.Dr. Cevat GERAY, Prof.Dr. Aysel AZIZ and Prof.Dr. Metin KAZANCI. In 1980, the Department of Public Education, which educated the public educators at the undergraduate and graduate level, closed their undergraduate programs. In 1989, the Department of Public Education continued its studies at the undergraduate and graduate level until 1997. In 1997, it was completely closed with the decision of Higher Education Council No. 97.39.2761 and the staff of the academic staff was transferred to Education Management and Planning Department. Since 1998, undergraduate and graduate programs without thesis have been continued under the name of Public Education Program. Later, the decision of the Higher Education Council in 2007 took place as a department of Life-Long Learning Education under the Department of Educational Cultural Foundations. In 2009, the Department of Public Education under the name of Lifelong Learning and Adult Education was re-established with the decision of the Higher Education Council. There is no undergraduate program at present. Only postgraduate education is offered at master and PhD level.
